I am proud to introduce to you my new collection which I am very excited about. I love working with semi-precious gemstones and different techniques that don't necessarily fit in with the idea of bridal jewellery, so the new Seren collection is suitable for any occasion, as a gift for someone special, bridesmaid, Mum or just as a treat for yourself.

The Seren collection is made from the same quality materials as the Bridal Designs range-Sterling silver and Swarovski Crystal but with the addition of stones like Rose Quartz, Amethyst and Garnet. Each Seren piece is a one-off, once they are sold they are removed from the site so you will have a truly unique piece.

The collection was originally going to be called the Serendipity collection but then I discovered it is one of those pesky words that I can't pronounce! (the other is specifically!) How can I say Swarovski and not serendipity?! So then I thought I'd cheat and shorten it to Serene, whilst typing it into Google to check it hadn't already been used I pressed enter too quickly and searched for Seren. I discovered Seren means 'star' in Welsh and as the last piece I had made (to be on the site shortly) featured a star pendant I thought that must be fate!

Ok-so I thought the photography on the last site I recommended in my blog was amazing but you ain't seen nothing until you've seen their stunning handmade wedding invitations!

A new addition to the site since my last post there is everything from pop-up cards to a pair of shoes with the invite in the insole for a hen night invitation.The detail on them is just amazing, I don't think anyone that recieved one would ever throw it away after the wedding.

One of the most popular items on the site at the moment are my memory charms, I thought I had covered all the different gift options for these pretty little charms but a customer this week came up with another one which I'll share with you. The memory charm consists of four (or more) Swarovski crystals in colours of your choice. These correspond with different birth stones or months of special events.

For example- for a wedding gift to the bride/bridesmaid/mother of the bride etc you could have the brides birthstone,grooms birthstone,month of wedding,and a colour that corresponds to the colour scheme of the wedding. Alternatively for a Christening you could have the birthstones of Mum, Dad and baby and the month of the Christening.

The lovely idea from the customer was this :- she was one of four women who had been close friends since school. They were meeting up to celebrate one of the groups 30th birthday so she decided to order a charm with the birthstones of all four of the friends as a lovely keepsake. A great idea (that I wish I'd thought of first!)

First of all congratulations to all of you getting married in 2010, and best wishes for your wedding day. It's a new year, a new decade, so I thought I'd better introduce my new range - Allure, and a new necklace perfect for a beach wedding - Paradise.

Allure is a new range comprising of a necklace, bracelet, pendant and a choice of round or teardrop earrings. Handcrafted from gorgeous Swarovski pearls this range also features beautiful sparkly Swarovski crystal rondelles for a touch of glamour.

The other new addition is the Paradise necklace, made from alternating Swarovski crystals and pearls for a delicate look this necklace features a lovely Swarovski crystal starfish pendant.

Bridal Designs at the Cedars Inn Wedding Fair

Things were going well at the Cedars Inn Wedding Fair today in Barnstaple. It was very busy and I met some lovely brides to be...when ..all of a sudden there was an invasion......

Nutter Invasion!

Wedding favours are very popular at the moment but finding nice things at a reasonable price is not so easy. Some clever ideas I have seen include a mix of wild flower seeds in a pretty envelope which the guests can take home and plant as a reminder of the day, along the same lines are tiny tin buckets with lavender plants in.

However my favourite idea is a donation to charity on behalf of each guest with a small note at each place setting informing them of what you have done. This is especially poignant if the charity you choose helps people with an illness that has affected you in some way, perhaps in remembrance of a member of your family who you've lost who would have been at your wedding.

Another way is to buy your favours straight from the charity of your choice. The British Heart Foundation currently have a range of wedding items on their website including heart pin badges which would be lovely for favours, and other items including magnetic heart stickers for your going away car!

On Sunday 13th September Bridal Designs Wedding Jewellery will be at the Cedars Inn wedding fair in Barnstaple. The fair is open from 10am-4pm, entry is free and there will be a wide range of companies attending including bridalwear ,flowers, cakemakers and entertainment. I thought I’d write a bit about me and how Bridal Designs Wedding Jewellery came to be .

I was putting a pair of earrings on display in the jewellery shop I worked in part-time, I started looking more closely at how they were put together, how the findings were linked and the stones attached. I wanted to find out how it was done and more importantly if I could do it. I've always been 'crafty' - cardmaking, scrapbooking, knitting etc but this would be completely different to anything I'd tried before.

When I got home that night I had a look on the internet at jewellery making sites and I was hooked instantly-I ordered some supplies and tools , started learning techniques and making a few pieces. After a lot of practice I took a few into work , the manager suggested I had my own shelf in one of the cabinets to see if they would sell. I must admit I was surprised when people started looking at my pieces and when the first customer bought one it was such a great feeling! As time went on the pieces were selling well but I only saw it as a sideline nothing more.

Two years later my sister announced she was getting married and asked me if I would make her wedding jewellery . I designed and made a few different pieces, which grew into a few more until I had a display case full. My sister chose her set leaving me with a bit of a problem-what to do with the remaining pieces?

I decided to pluck up the courage to approach a local bridal shop with my designs to see if they would be interested in selling them for me, the manager said yes straight away! More shops followed and I decided that an Internet store would be the next step. Selling through shops is great but you never get the contact with the brides who buy and wear your jewellery, to deal with them directly is so nice and when they send you a photo of themselves wearing your jewellery on the biggest day of their lives it gives you a real buzz to know you’ve been a part of it.
